Yahshua – Who And What?

Introduction

Who is Yahshua? Most of the world has never heard that name. Many understand Scripture to talk about a being called "Jesus" or the Savior. But is that the same being? Or is He something more powerful than they have ever considered? Is He human or deity? Or both? Was He truly born of a virgin? Did He pre-exist His human birth or only come into being at that time? Is He alive today? Will He exist forever?

The English-language Bibles use the name "Jesus". We are told it is a Latinized name, though it really has no etymological meaning. But was that what Mary and Joseph named the baby boy born in Bethlehem? Why would He have a Latin name? He was a Hebrew baby, born to Hebrew parents, in a nation that spoke Hebrew, so His name must have been Hebrew. The name Yahshua has meaning. It tells us that Yahweh is salvation. (For more information on the names "Yahshua" and "Yahweh", please see our booklet titled "The Names of the Father and the Son".)

Birth

Luke 2:1-8
And it happened in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus for all the inhabitable world to be registered.
This registration first occurred under the covering of Syria by Cyrenius.
And all went to be registered, each to his own city.
And Joseph also went from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,
to be registered with Mary, she having been betrothed to him as a wife, she being pregnant.
And it happened as they were there, the days were fulfilled for her to bear.
And she bore her son, the Firstborn. And she wrapped Him, and laid Him in the manger - because there was no place for them in the inn.
And shepherds were in the same country, living in the fields, and keeping guard over their flock by night.

This event did not occur in December as the world supposes. It would have been about the time of the fall festival, late September till late October on our calendar. If it had been December, the shepherds would not have been in the fields as that is the rainy season and the sheep would have been protected. (For more information, see our booklet titled "Christmas - Messiah's Birthday?")

Yahshua's birth was announced well ahead of time to Mary and Joseph.

Luke 1:26-35
And in the sixth month, the messenger Gabriel was sent by Elohim to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
to a virgin who had been betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
And entering, the messenger said to her, Hail, one having received grace! Yahweh is with you. You are blessed among women!
And seeing this, she was disturbed at his word, and considered what kind of greeting this might be.
And the messenger said to her, Do not fear, Mary, for you have found favor from Elohim.
And behold! You will conceive in your womb and bear a Son; and you will call His name Yahshua.
This one will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. And Yahweh Elohim will give His the throne of His father David.
And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.
But Mary said to the messenger, How will this be since I do not know a man?
And answering, the messenger said to her, The Set-Apart Spirit will come upon you, the power of the Most High will overshadow you - and for this reason that Set-apart One being born of you will be called Son of Elohim.

Matthew 1:18-25
Now the birth of Yahshua Messiah was this way - for His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph - before they came together, she was discovered to be pregnant in womb by the Set-apart Spirit.
But her husband Joseph being just, and not willing to make her a public example, he purposed to put her away secretly.
And as he was thinking about these things, behold, a messenger of Yahweh was seen by him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For that in her is fathered by the Set-apart Spirit.
And she will bear a son; and you shall call His name Yahshua; for He shall save His people from their sins.
Now all this happened so that might be fulfilled that spoken by Yahweh through the prophet, saying,
"Behold! The virgin will conceive in her womb, and will bear a son; and they will call His name Emmanuel", which translated is Elohim with us.
And being aroused from sleep, Joseph did as the messenger of Yahweh commanded him, and took his wife;
And did not know her until she bore her son, the Firstborn. And he called His name Yahshua.

And Yahshua was also prophesied in the Old Testament.

Isaiah 7:14
So, the Master Himself will give you a sign: Behold! The virgin is with child, and shall bring forth a son; and she shall call His name Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:6-7
For a Child is born; to us a Son is given; and the government is on His shoulder, and His name is called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty El, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
There is no end to the increase of His government and of peace on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to sustain it with justice, and with righteousness, from now and forever. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.

Virgin Birth?

The concept that Mary was a virgin has been argued over the centuries. "That just is not possible!" are the words of many. But if the human body, and all its intricate parts can be created from dust, what would make conception so impossible? The Scriptures tell us that all things possible with Yahweh.

The word "virgin" in Isaiah 7:14 is Strong's #5959, almah. It means "a lass (as veiled or private)." It has been translated as damsel, maid or virgin. The root word is Strong's #5956 alam, meaning "to veil from sight, i.e. conceal."

"Almah" is used only six other times in the Old Testament, and refers to young females who are virgins. The "veiled" or "concealed" does not mean that they are hidden from sight. It signifies that they have never had sexual relations; they have never been uncovered for that purpose.

In Leviticus 18 there is a list of categories of people of whom an individual was not to uncover the nakedness. Two words of importance are used there. "Uncover" is Strong's #1540, galah. It means "to denude (especially in a disgraceful sense); by implication to exile (captives being usually stripped); figuratively to reveal." The second word is Strong's #6172, ervah. It has to do with nudity of an explicit nature. These words have to do with sexual relations, not a veil over the face.

Two examples of the word "almah" are Rachel, an unmarried young woman in Genesis 24:43 and Moses' sister in Exodus 2:8.

The Greek word in Luke 1:27 translated as virgin is Strong's #3933, parthenos. It means a maiden, by implication an unmarried daughter.

Galatians 4:4
But when the fullness of the time came, Elohim sent forth His Son, having come out of a woman, having come under law.

Note the wording here - "having come out of a woman". Human beings, as we know them, were made by woman and man. But this does not mention a man as having been involved, just simply that Yahweh sent His Son.

Matthew 1:16
And Jacob fathered Joseph, the betrothed husband of Mary, of whom Yahshua was born, who is called Messiah.

Here there is a change in the verb when it comes to Yahshua. Verses 2 through 16 use the word "begat" (or "fathered") repeatedly, an active form of the verb, meaning the man had an active part in what was done. But it says that Yahshua "was born", a passive form of the verb. It is referring only to Mary, making it clear that Joseph did not "begat" (or "father") Yahshua. The human male played no part in the process of the procreation of Yahshua.

Old Testament Prophecies

We saw two prophecies from Isaiah that were fulfilled in the birth of Yahshua. Are there more? Are there other references in the Old Testament that describe the person of and/or the events surrounding Yahshua? We will look at each Old Testament Scripture, followed by responses from the New Testament.

Old Testament

New Testament

Deuteronomy 18:15, 18
Yahweh your Elohim shall raise up to you a Prophet from among you, of your brothers, One like me - you shall listen to Him.
I shall raise up a Prophet to them from among their brothers, like you; and I will put My words in His mouth; and He shall speak to them all that I shall command Him.
John 1:45
Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, We have found the One who Moses wrote about in the Law and the Prophets, Yahshua the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.

Why here was he called the son of Joseph? Especially since we have already seen that Joseph did not father Him. But think about it - don't many families refer to step-children as their own? Yahshua had lived in the home with Joseph and was brother to the later children that Mary and Joseph had.

John 8:28
Then Yahshua said to them, When you lift up the Son of man, then you will know that I AM; and from Myself I do nothing; but as My Father taught Me, these things I speak.

John 12:49-50
For I did not speak from Myself, but He who sent Me, the Father, He has given Me command, what I should say, and what I should speak.
And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, what things I speak, as the Father has said to Me, so I speak.

Acts 3:22, 26
For Moses indeed said to the fathers, "Yahweh your Elohim will raise up a Prophet from among your brothers, One like me; you shall hear Him according to all things, whatever He may speak to you."
Having raised up His child Yahshua, Elohim sent Him first to you, blessing you in turning away each one from your iniquities.

Old Testament

New Testament

Psalms 16:10
for You will not leave My soul in hell (Strong's Hebrew #7585 sheol, meaning the world of the dead (as if a subterranean retreat - in other words, the grave); You will not give Your Set-apart One to see corruption.
Acts 2:27, 31
Because You will not leave My soul in hell (Strong's Greek #86 hades, (unseen, i.e. "Hades" or the place of departed souls - in other words, the grave), nor will you give Your Set-apart One to see corruption.
foreseeing, he spoke about the resurrection of the Messiah, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.

Psalms 22:1
My El, my El, why have You forsaken me, and are far from my deliverance, and from the words of my groaning?
Matthew 27:46
And about the ninth hour Yahshua cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani - that is, My El, My El, why did You forsake Me?

Psalms 22:16
Also You appoint me to the dust of death; for dogs have encircled me; a band of spoilers have hemmed me in, piercers of my hands and my feet.
John 20:25
Then the other disciples said to them, We have seen the Master. But he (Thomas) said to them, Unless I see the mark of the nails in His hands, and thrust my fingers into the mark of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, in no way will I believe.

Psalms 22:18
They divide my garments among them, and they made fall a lot for my clothing.
Matthew 27:35
And having crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting a lot - that might be fulfilled that spoken by the prophet, "They divided My garments to themselves, and they cast a lot over My clothing."

John 19:23-24
Then when they crucified Yahshua, the soldiers took His garments and made four parts, a part to each soldier; also the robe. And the robe was seamless, woven from the top through out.
Then they said to one another, Let us not tear it, but let us cast lots about it, whose it will be - that the Scriptures might be fulfilled which said, "They divided My garments among them, and they threw a lot for My garment." Therefore, the soldiers did these things.

Psalms 69:21
They also gave me gall in my food; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Matthew 27:34, 48
They gave Him vinegar mingled with gall to drink. And having tasted, He would not drink.
And at once one of them running and taking a sponge, and filling it with vinegar, put it on a reed and gave drink to Him.

Psalms 110:1-4
A statement of Yahweh to my Master: Sit at My right hand, until I place Your enemies as Your footstool.
Yahweh shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion; rule in the midst of Your enemies.
Your people shall be willing in the day of Your power; in the majesties of set-apartness from the womb of the dawn, to you is the dew of Your youth.
Yahweh has sworn and will not repent: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Yahweh was speaking to One who was David's master - not David. Who could that be?

Acts 2:34-36
For David did not ascend into heaven, but he says, "Yahweh said to my Master, Sit at My right
until I place your enemies as a footstool for Your feet."
Then assuredly, let all the house of Israel acknowledge that Elohim made Him both Master and Messiah, this same Yahshua whom you crucified.

Hebrews 1:3
(referring to the Son) who being the shining splendor of His glory, and the express image of His essence, and upholding all things by the word of His power, having made purification of our sins through Himself, He sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Hebrews 5:5-6
So also Messiah did not glorify Himself to become a high priest, but He speaking to Him, "You are my Son, today I have begotten You."
As He also says in another, "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek."

Hebrews 6:20
Where Yahshua entered as forerunner for us, having become a High Priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 8:1
Now a summary of the things being said is: We have such a High Priest, who sat down on the right of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.

Psalms 118:22
The Stone which the builders rejected has become the Head of the corner.
Matthew 21:42-44
Yahshua said to them, Did you never read in the Scripture, "The Stone which the builders rejected is the One that has become the head of the corner. This was from Yahweh, and it is a wonder in our eyes?"
Because of this I say to you, The kingdom of Elohim will be taken from you, and it will be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it.
And he who falls on this Stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.

Isaiah 11:1-5, 10-12
And a Shoot goes out from the stump of Jesse, and a Branch will bear fruit out of his roots.
And the Spirit of Yahweh shall rest on Him; He will have the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and power, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Yahweh.
And He is made to breathe in the fear of Yahweh. But He shall not judge by the seeing of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears.
But He shall judge the poor in righteousness, and shall decide rightly for the meek of the earth. And He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and He shall slay the wicked with the breath of His lips.
And righteousness shall be encircler of His thighs, and faithfulness the encircler of His loins.
And it shall be in that day, the root of Jesse stands as a banner of peoples; nations shall seek to Him, and His resting place shall be glory,
And it shall be in that day, the Master shall again set His hand, the second time, to recover the remnant of His people that remains, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Ethiopia, and from Persia, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the coasts of the sea.
And He shall lift up a banner for the nations, and shall gather the outcasts of Israel, and gather those dispersed from Judah, and from the four wings of the earth.

Matthew 3:16-17
And having been baptized, Yahshua went up immediately from the water. And, behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of Elohim coming down as a dove, and coming upon Him,
And behold! A voice out of heaven saying, This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I have found delight.

Isaiah 28:16
So, the Master Yahweh says this: Behold, I place in Zion a Stone for a foundation, a tried Stone, a precious Cornerstone, a sure foundation; he who believes shall not make haste.
Romans 9:32-33
Why? Because it was not of faith, but as works of law. For they stumbled at the Stone-of-stumbling,
as it had been written, "Behold, I place in Zion a Stone-of-stumbling, and a Rock-of-offense; and everyone believing on Him will not be put to shame."

Isaiah 40:3
The voice of him who cries in the wilderness: Prepare the way of Yahweh; make straight in the desert a highway for our Elohim.

Matthew 3:1-3
Now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
and saying, Repent! For the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.
For this is he spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness! Prepare the way of Yahweh! Make His paths straight!"

Luke 1:17, 76
And he will go out before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and disobedient ones to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people having been prepared for the Master.
And you, child (John the Baptist), will be called Prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the face of the Master to prepare His ways.

John 1:23
He (John the Baptist) said, "I am a voice crying in the wilderness: Make the way of the Master straight," as Isaiah the prophet said.

Isaiah 42:1
Behold My Servant; I will uphold Him; My Elect in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit on Him; He shall bring forth justice to the nations.

Matthew 12:14-18
But as they were leaving, the Pharisees took up a council against Him, how they might destroy Him.
But knowing, Yahshua withdrew from there. And many crowds followed Him, and He healed them all,
and warned them that they should not make Him manifest.
So that might be fulfilled that spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
"Behold My child whom I chose, My Beloved, in whom my soul has delighted! I will put My spirit on Him, and He will declare judgment to the nations."

Mark 1:10-11
And going up from the water immediately, He saw the heavens being torn, and the Spirit coming down as a dove upon Him.
And there was a voice out of the heavens, You are My Son, the Beloved, in whom I take delight.

And said, Hail, king of the Jews! And they gave Him blows with the palm.

Isaiah 53:1
Who has believed our report? And to whom is the arm of Yahweh revealed?

John 12:37-38
But though He had done so many miracles before them, they did not believe into Him,
so that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, "Yahweh, who has believed our report? And the arm of Yahweh, to whom was it revealed?"

Isaiah 53:3
He is despised and abandoned of men, A Man of pains and having known sicknesses. And as it were a hiding of faces from Him, He being despised and we not valuing Him.

John 1:11
He came into His own and His own did not receive Him.

John 4:44
For Yahshua Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own native-place.

Isaiah 53:4-5
Surely He has borne our sicknesses and our pains; He bore them, yet we regarded Him as plagued, stricken by Elohim and afflicted.
But He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was on Him, and with His wounds we ourselves are healed.

Matthew 8:16-17
And evening having come on, they brought to Him many possessed by demons, and He cast out the spirits by a word, and He healed all those having illness;
so that it might be fulfilled that spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "He took upon Himself our weaknesses, and bare our own sicknesses."

Romans 4:24-25
But also on account of us, to whom it is about to be counted, to the ones believing on Him who has raised our Master Yahshua from the dead,
who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised for our justification.

I Peter 2:24
whom Himself (Yahshua) bore in His body our sins onto the tree; that dying to sins we might live to righteousness, of whom, by His wound, you were healed.

II Corinthians 5:21
For He (Yahweh) made Him (Yahshua) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of Elohim in Him.

Hebrews 9:28
So being once offered to bear the sins of many, Messiah shall appear a second time without sin to those expecting Him for salvation.

Isaiah 53:7-8
He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, but He did not open His mouth. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a ewe before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.
He was taken from prison and from justice; and who shall consider His generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living; from the transgression of My people, the stroke was to Him.

Matthew 27:14
And He (Yahshua) did not answer him, not even one word, so that the governor greatly marveled.

Acts 8:32-35
And the content of the Scriptures which he was reading was this: "He was led as a sheep to slaughter, and as a lamb dumb before its shearer, so He does not open His mouth.
In His humiliation, His judgment was taken away; and who will recount His generation? For His life is taken away from the earth."
And answering, the eunuch said to Philip, I beg you, about whom does the prophet say this? About himself, or about some other.
And opening his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, Philip preached to him the gospel of Yahshua.

coming up to Pilate, this one asked the body of Yahshua. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given.
And taking the body, Joseph wrapped it in clean linen,
and laid it in his new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock. And rolling a great stone to the door of the tomb, he departed.

I Peter 2:22
Who (Yahshua) did not sin, nor was guile found in His mouth.

Jeremiah 31:15
So says Yahweh, A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing, bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her sons; she refuses to be comforted for her sons, for they are not.

Matthew 2:16-18
Then seeing that he was mocked by the wise men, Herod was greatly enraged; and having sent, he killed all the boys in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under - according to the time which he exactly asked from the wise men.
Then was fulfilled that spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying;
"A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and bitter weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they were not."

Isaiah 53:12
Because of this I will divide to Him with the great, and with the strong He shall divide the spoil; because He poured out His soul to death; and He was counted with transgressors; and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for transgressors.

Mark 15:27-28
And they crucified two robbers with Him, one off the right, and one off the left of Him.

Mark 11:15-17
And they came to Jerusalem. And entering into the temple, Yahshua began to throw out those selling and buying in the temple; also He overturned the tables of the moneychanger, and the seats of those selling the doves.
And He did not allow any to carry a vessel through the temple.
And He taught, saying to them, Has it not been written, "My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations"?

Isaiah 61:1-2
The Spirit of the Master Yahweh is on Me, because Yahweh has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the meek. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives, and complete opening to the bound ones;
to proclaim the acceptable year of Yahweh, and the day of vengeance of our Elohim; to comfort all who mourn.

Luke 4:16-21
And He came to Nazareth, where He was brought up. And He went in as was His custom, on the day of the Sabbaths, into the synagogue, and stood up to read.
And the roll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to Him, and unrolling the book, He found the place where it was written:
"The Spirit of Yahweh is upon Me; therefore He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted; to preach deliverance to captives, and new sight to the blind; to send away crushed ones in deliverance;
to preach an acceptable year of Yahweh."
And rolling up the roll, returning it to the attendant, He sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
and He began to say to them, Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.

Hosea 11:1
When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and I called My son out of Egypt.

Matthew 12:13-15
And they (the wise men) having departed, a messenger of Yahweh appeared to Joseph by a dream, saying, Rise up! Take the child and His mother with you, and flee into Egypt. And be there until I shall tell you. For Herod is about to look for the child in order to destroy Him.
And rising up, he took along the child and His mother by night, and withdrew into Egypt.
And he was there until the end of Herod, that might be fulfilled that spoken by Yahweh through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I have called My Son."

Zechariah 11:13
And Yahweh said to Me, Throw it to the potter, and the splendid price at which I was valued by them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw it to the potter in the house of Yahweh.

Matthew 27:3-10
Then the one betraying Him, seeing that He was condemned, sorrowing Judas returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,
saying, I sinned, betraying innocent blood. But they said, What is it to us? You see to it.
and tossing the silver pieces into the temple, he left. And going away he hanged himself.
And taking the pieces of silver, the chief priests said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.
And taking counsel, they bought of them the potter's field, for burial for the strangers.
So that field was called Field of Blood until today.
Then was fulfilled that spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "And I took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him who was priced, on whom they of the sons of Israel set a price,
and gave them for the potter's field, as Yahweh directed me."

Zechariah 12:10
And I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of prayers. And they shall look on Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and shall be bitter over Him, like the bitterness over the Firstborn.

John 19:34, 37
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a lance; and at once blood and water came out.
And again, a different Scripture says, "They shall look at Him whom they have pierced."

Revelation 1:7
Behold, He comes with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, and the ones who pierced Him, and all the tribes of the earth will wail on account of Him. Yes, Amen.

Zechariah 13:7
O sword, awake against My Shepherd, and against the Man who is My companion, says Yahweh of hosts. Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered. And I will turn My hand on the little ones.

Matthew 26:31, 56
Then Yahshua said to them, You will all be offended in Me during this night. For it has been written, "I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered."
But all this is happening that the Scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled. Then all the disciples ran away, forsaking Him.

Can you see the connections? There are too many here to be simple coincidences. All references to the Messiah in the Old Testament are not quoted here; this is just a sampling to get you started looking.

Think about it deeply. If Yahshua is not the Messiah, the one who died for your sins, then you have no Savior! So where would that leave you? Without salvation at this time.

This last prophecy is not given in the Old Testament, but it is one that Yahshua Himself stated, and then fulfilled: that He would die and be resurrected in three days.

Matthew 12:38-40
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, Teacher, we desire to see a sign from you.
But answering He said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
For even as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

Jonah 1:17
And Yahweh had appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Luke 24:6-7, 45-46
He is not here, but was raised. Remember how He spoke to you, yet being in Galilee,
saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and to be crucified, and that the third day to rise again.
Then He opened up their mind to understand the Scriptures,
and said to them, So it has been written, and so it was necessary that the Messiah should suffered, and to rise from the dead the third day.

I Corinthians 15:14
But if Messiah has not been raised, then our proclamation is worthless, and your faith is also worthless.

In other words, if we think that Yahshua was not resurrected from death, then we are wasting our time even following the New Testament and anything referring to Him. Because that was the message the disciples carried - that they had been witnesses to Him living again. Not many people would devote their lives to something untrue or that they did not believe in. And most of the disciples went on to die for Him.

Acts 2:30-32
Being a prophet then, and knowing that Elohim swore with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loin, as concerning flesh, to raise the Messiah to sit on his throne;
oreseeing he spoke about the resurrection of the Messiah, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption,
This Yahshua Elohim raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

Yahweh Is One

Many believe that Yahshua did not exist at all until Mary became pregnant. They cannot face the idea that He could be more because of Scriptures like the following.

Deuteronomy 6:4
Hear, O Israel, Yahweh our Elohim is one Yahweh.

The word "one" used here is Strong's #259, echad. It means "united, i.e. one; or first." The root word is Strong's #258, achad. It means "to unify, i.e. (fig) to collect (one's thoughts)."

Does "united" define one being, or one person?

Isaiah 42:8
I am Yahweh; that is My name; and I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to engraved images.

John 17:3
And this is everlasting life, that they may know You, the only true Elohim, and Yahshua Messiah, whom You have sent.

I Corinthians 8:4, 6
Then concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other Elohim except one.
but to us is one Elohim, the Father of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Master, Yahshua Messiah, through whom are all things, and we by Him.

And Scripture also says that no one has seen the Father. Right?

Exodus 33:19-23
And He said, I will cause all My goodness to pass before your face. And I will call out the name of Yahweh before your face, and I will favor whom I will favor, and I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy.
And he said, You are not able to see My face; for no man sees Me and lives.
And Yahweh said, Behold, a place by Me! And you shall stand on a rock.
And as My glory is passing it will be that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover My palm over you during My passing.
And I will remove My palm, and you shall see My back, but My face cannot be seen.

Matthew 11:27
All things were yielded up to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

John 1:18
No man has seen Elohim at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He reveals Him.

John 5:37
And the Father, He sending Me has Himself borne witness concerning Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor have you seen His form.

John 6:46
Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the one being from Elohim. He has seen the Father.

I John 4:12
No one has seen Elohim at any time. If we love one another, Elohim abides in us, and His love having been perfected is in us.

You agree with that? Okay. Now, in the light of those verses, look at the following ones. We understand that Scripture cannot contradict itself. So how do you explain these?

Genesis 12:7
And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said I will give this land to your seed. And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who appeared to him.

Genesis 17:1
And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram and said to him, I am El Shaddai! Walk before me and be perfect.

Genesis 26:2
And Yahweh appeared to him (Isaac) and said, Do not go down into Egypt, stay in the land which I shall say to you.

Genesis 35:1, 7
And Elohim said to Jacob, Rise up, go to Bethel and live there. And make an altar to El there, who appeared to you when you fled before your brother Esau.
And he built an altar there and called the place El-Bethel; because Elohim revealed Himself to him there when he fled from his brother.

Exodus 3:1-6
And Moses was feeding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock behind the wilderness and came to the mountain of Elohim, to Horeb.
And the messenger of Yahweh appeared to him in a flame of fire from the middle of a thorn bush. And he looked, and behold, the thorn bush was burning with fire and the thorn bush was not burned up!
And Moses said, I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the thorn bush is not burned up.
And Yahweh saw that he was turned aside to see, and Yahweh called to him from the midst of the thorn bush, and said, Moses! Moses! And he said, I am here.
And He said, Do not come near here, pull off your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is set-apart ground.
And He said, I am the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he feared to look upon Yahweh.

Exodus 6:2-3
And Elohim spoke to Moses and said to him, I am Yahweh.
And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai, and by My name Yahweh, did I not make Myself known to them?

Most English translations do not make this a question, but the Hebrew grammar allows for it. Another reason is that if you will look back when Abraham, Isaac and Jacob talked to or about Yahweh, they used the name Yahweh! He revealed Himself to the and they called Him by the name Yahweh. It is in Scripture if you search for it.

Exodus 24:9-11
And Moses and Aaron went up with Nadab and Abihu, and seventy from the elders of Israel.
And they saw the Elohim of Israel. And under His feet was as the work of a pavement of sapphire, and as the heavens for clearness,
And He did not stretch out His hand to the nobles of the sons of Israel. And they saw Elohim, and they ate and drank.

Here at least 74 men saw Yahweh Elohim - all at the same time!

Numbers 12:6-8
And He said (to Aaron and Miriam), Now hear My words. If your prophet is of Yahweh, I shall make Myself known to him in an appearance; I will speak to him in a dream.
It is not so with My servant Moses! He is faithful in all My house.
I speak to him mouth to mouth, and by an appearance, and not in riddles; and he carefully looks upon the form of Yahweh. So why have you not been afraid to speak against My servant, against Moses?

Deuteronomy 34:10
And never since has a prophet like Moses arisen in Israel, whom Yahweh knew face to face.

Joshua 5:13-15
And it happened, when Joshua was beside Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked. And, behold! A Man stood opposite him, and His sword was drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, Are You for us, or for our foes?
And He said, No, for I now come as the Commander of the army of Yahweh. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped. And he said to Him, What does my Master say to His servant?
And the Commander of the army of Yahweh said to Joshua, Take your shoe off your foot, for the place on which you are standing is set-apart. And Joshua did so.

Who was this? The Hebrew word here is the word Strong's #376, ish. It means "a man as an individual or a male person. That is not the word for angel or messenger. It must have been more than what we call an angel. Angels were not to be worshiped. The commands were that only Yahweh was to be worshiped.

Matthew 4:10
Then Yahshua said to him, Go, Satan! For it has been written: "You shall worship Yahweh your Elohim, and you shall serve Him only."

Joshua was not told to rise and not worship. It also is wording as was used with Moses, that he was to remove his shoes because the ground was set-apart. That was never said about an angel or a messenger.

II Chronicles 1:7
In that night Elohim appeared to Solomon and said to him, Ask what I shall give to you.

Isaiah 6:1, 5
In the year that king Uzziah died, then I saw the Master sitting on a throne, high and lifted up. And His train filled the temple.
Then I said, Woe is me! For I am cut off; for I am an man of unclean lips, and I live amongst a people of unclean lips, for my eyes have seen the king Yahweh of hosts.

If no man has seen the Father, and these men clearly saw Yahweh; then whom were they seeing? Was there another being besides the Father at that time?

Hebrew Words In Plural

If we go all the way back to the beginning, in the Hebrew, we see plural words used in reference to Deity. But realize that the English was not always translated that way. Why not? Because it would create "theological problems" - problems with the theology of the translators and other religious people of their day.

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.

The word "Elohim", in Hebrew, is plural. It is Strong's #430 and means "deities". Some will say that it is like the royal "we", but in the declining of words in Hebrew grammar, this is plural. If it were singular, it would be el, elahh, or eloahh.

Genesis 1:26
And Elohim said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth.

Did you catch that? "Us". "Our". Those are plural words! But then people look at the next verse and have a problem.

Genesis 1:27
And Elohim created the man in His own image; in the image of Elohim He created him. He created them male and female.

But is this really so hard to understand? Let's look at an example. Suppose you had two men - father and son - George Senior and George Junior - discussing a shed they wanted to construct in their back yard. One said "Let's (let us) build it 8 feet square with one door and two windows." So George built the shed.

Is there really a problem? The two discussed it, shared their plans and decided what to do. Then one of them went ahead and did the work. "Us" discussed it, but "he" did it.

Genesis 3:22
And Yahweh Elohim said, Behold! The man (Adam) has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and also take from the Tree of life and live forever.

"Us" appears again! Who is "Us"?

Genesis 11:7, referring to the tower being built at Babel
Come, let us go down, and confuse their lip so that they cannot understand one another's speech.

Once again, "us".

The following verse is not translated this way in most Bible versions, but the correct translation from the Hebrew says -

Ecclesiastes 12:1
Remember the creators of you in the days of your youth; while the evil days do not come, or the years draw near when you shall say, I have no pleasure in them.

Do you see the "theological problem" there? Creators! It is plural.

And again.

Isaiah 54:5
For your makers are your husbands Yahweh of hosts is His name, and your redeemer is the Set-apart One of Israel. He is called the Elohim of all the earth.

Most of the world assumes that the Son did not come on the scene, until the time of the New Testament. Therefore the Father must have done the actual creating. But that is not what the New Testament says!

John 1:1-3
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim. And the Word was Elohim.
He was in the beginning with Elohim.
All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.

Ephesians 3:9
And to bring all to light, what is the fellowship of the mystery having been hidden from eternity in Elohim, the One creating all things through Yahshua Messiah.

Hebrews 2:2
In these last days He spoke to us in the Son, whom He appointed heir of all; through whom He indeed made the ages.

John 10:30
I and the Father are one!

John 17:11, 20-23
And I no longer am in the world, yet these are in the world; and I come to You, Set-apart Father; Keep them in Your name, those whom You gave to Me, that they may be one as We are.
And I do not pray concerning these only, but also concerning those who will believe in Me through their word;
that all may be one, as You are in Me, Father, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
And I have give them the glory which You have given Me, that they may be one, as we are one;
I in them, and You in Me, that they may be perfected in one, and that the world may know that You sent Me and loved them, even as You loved Me.

And, interestingly enough, the word that much of Judaism uses instead of the name Yahweh - Adonai - is plural as well. They say it is plural because it is like the royal "we". But grammatically, if it were one only, the word would be Adonee. But they use a grammatically plural word. Why?

The word echad used to describe Yahweh is the same word used regarding marriage of Adam and Eve.

Genesis 2:24
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Ephesians 5:31
"For this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and the two shall be one flesh."

That means that the two people are to become so close - in every way, not just physically - that they function as one; to be united or unified in everything they do. So when it says "Yahweh is one" could it not be two beings so close and united that they function as one?

The Father and the Son are one. They have the same desires and goals; the same character; they are "on the same page"; going the same direction. They are in agreement and they have unity in the spirit. They both have deep, abiding love and concern for others. Just think how strong and long-lasting a marriage could be with the same basis! Well, that's what was intended: two pulling together, in love, for the same cause. Not two individuals "doing their own thing" and then not understanding why the marriage isn't working.

The Word Of Yahweh

When we say "word", we think of a collection of letters, whether on paper or in speech. Is that it? Or could there be more to a word?

John 1:1-2
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim.
He was in the beginning with Elohim.

The Word here is much more than a collection of letters. It is a Being. It says the Word is Elohim and was with Elohim. Then there must be more than one in Elohim! Remember, the word is plural.

Genesis 15:1
After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, Do not fear, Abram; I am your shield, your reward will increase greatly.

A simple word? Or a being?

Psalms 33:6-9
Through Yahweh's word the heavens were made; and all their host by the breath of His mouth.
The waters of the sea were gathered like a heap, setting the depths in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear Yahweh; let all dwellers in the world stand in awe of Him;
For He spoke, and it was done, He commanded, and it stood fast.

Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand the worlds to have been framed by the word of Elohim so that the things seen should not come into being out of things that appear.

I John 1:1-3
We announce to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we behold, and what our hands touched, as regards the Word of Life.
And the Life was revealed, and we have seen, and we bear witness, and we announce to you the everlasting Life which was with the Father, and was revealed to us.
We announce to you what we have seen, and what we have heard, that you also may have fellowship with us and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Yahshua Messiah.

Revelation 19:11-13
And I saw heaven being opened. And, behold! A white horse, and He sitting on it having been called Faithful and True. And He judges and wars in righteousness.
And His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head many diadems, having a name that had been written, which no one knows except Himself;
And having been clothed in a garment which had been dipped in blood. And His name is called the Word of Elohim.

The Word is not just a combination of letters. He is alive! He is full of power that we cannot imagine!

The Right Hand / Right Arm

What is "the right hand" or "the right arm"? Is it simply the opposite of the left hand? Or does it just refer to being on the right side of something? Or can it be like a phrase we use - "my right hand man"?

Exodus 15:6
Your right hand, O Yahweh is glorious in power; Your right hand, O Yahweh, dashes the enemy to pieces.

Psalms 17:7
Set out your wonderful lovingkindness, O Savior of those who trust in You by Your right hand, from those who rise up against You.

Psalms 20:6
Now I know Yahweh saves His anointed; He will answer him from His set-apart heaven with the saving strengths of His right hand.

Psalms 98:1-2
O sing to Yahweh a new song; for He has done wondrous things; His right hand and His set-apart arm has saved Him.
Yahweh has revealed His salvation, He unveiled His righteousness in the eyes of the nations.

Isaiah 48:12-13
Listen to Me, O Jacob, and Israel My called; I am He; I am the First; I surely am the last.
My hand surely founded earth; and My right hand stretched out the heavens; I called, they stood up together.

Where did Yahshua go after His resurrection? And where is He today?

Acts 7:55-56
But (Stephen) being full of the Set-apart Spirit, looking intently into heaven, he saw the glory of Elohim, and Yahshua standing at the right hand of Elohim.
And he said, Behold, I see the heavens having been opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of Elohim!

Romans 8:34
Who is he condemning. This is the One who has died, but rather also is raised, who also is at the right hand of Elohim; who also intercedes for us.

Ephesians 1:20
which He worked in Messiah in raising Him from the dead - yea, He (Yahweh) seated Him (Yahshua) at His right hand in the heavenlies.

Hebrews 1:2-3
In these last days He spoke to us in the Son, whom He appointed heir of all; through whom He indeed made the ages;
who being the shining splendor of His glory, and the express image of His essence, and upholding all things by the word of His power, having made purification of our sins through Himself, He sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

I Peter 3:21-22
Which figure now also saves us, baptism - not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward Elohim through the resurrection of Yahshua Messiah;
who going into heaven is at the right of Elohim, the messengers, and authorities, and powers being subjected to Him.

I Am

When Moses was at the burning bush, he asked for the name of the Being who was speaking to him. This is one of the statements he received before he was given the name Yahweh.

Exodus 3:14
And Elohim said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM; and He said You shall say this to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.

What did Yahshua say?

Mark 14:62-63
And Yahshua said, I AM! And you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of the heaven.
and tearing his garments, the high priest said, Why do we still have need of witnesses?

The high priest knew from Scripture what had been said to Moses. And he knew exactly what that phrase meant!

John 8:58-59
Yahshua said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I AM.
Then they took up stones that they might throw them on Him. But Yahshua was hidden and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 18:4-6
Then knowing all the things coming upon Him, going forth Yahshua said to them, Whom do you seek?
They answered Him, Yahshua the Nazarene. Yahshua said to them, I AM! And Judas, the one betraying Him, also stood with them.
Then when He said to them, I AM, they departed into the rear and fell to the ground.

Your Bible translation may say "I am he". But the "he" does not appear in the Greek. These men were upset. They realized what Yahshua was saying - that He was the Yahweh of the Old Testament. Since they were so strong on the statement that Yahweh is one, they couldn't see anything else but that Yahshua was a liar and they were ready to stone Him for making Himself equal with the Father. To them, what He was saying was heresy.

Yahshua Had Been Where?

When Yahshua talked about where He was from, He didn't name a town or an area. He didn't say that He was from Nazareth.

John 3:13
And no one has gone up into heaven, except He having come down out of heaven, the Son of Man who is in heaven.

John 6:38, 51, 62
For I have come down out of heaven, not that I should do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
I am the Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever. And indeed the bread which I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Then what if you see the Son of man going up where He was at first?

John 8:23, 38
And He said to them, You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world.
I speak what I have seen with My Father. And therefore you do what you have seen with your father.

John 16:28
I came out from the Father, and have come into the world; I leave the world again and go to the Father.

John 17:5
And now, Father glorify Me with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the existence of the world.

I Corinthians 15:47
The first man (Adam) was out of earth, earthy. The second Man (Yahshua) was the Master out of heaven.

Yahshua had existed in heaven, with the Father, before His human birth! And, as we have already seen, that is where He is once again.

The Rock

Yahweh has been referred to as a rock in Scriptures.

Deuteronomy 32:4, 15, 18
He is the Rock, His work is perfect. For all His ways are just, an El of faithfulness, and without evil; just and upright is He.
But Jeshrun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, thick and stubborn, and he abandoned Eloah who made him, and dishonored the Rock of his salvation.
You forgot the Rock that brought you into being, and neglected El who formed you.

I Samuel 2:2
There is none set-apart like Yahweh, for there is none except You; yes, there is no rock like our Elohim.

II Samuel 22:2, 3, 32, 47
And he (David) said, Yahweh is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer.
My Elohim is my rock; I shall take refuge in Him; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower and my refuge! My Savior You shall save me from violence.
For who is El except Yahweh? And who is a rock except our Elohim?
Yahweh lives! And blessed is my rock, and exalted is my Elohim, the rock of my salvation.

To see the many references made by David, just look under "rock" in a concordance for verses in Psalms.

Are we to assume this Rock was the Father? Not according to Scripture.

I Corinthians 10:1-4
And I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud; and all passed through the sea.
And all were baptized to Messiah in the cloud, and in the sea;
And all ate the same spiritual food.
And all drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank of the spiritual rock following - and that Rock was Messiah.

So who was the Yahweh of the Old Testament?

In Summary

Then was/is it possible that there was/is more than one named Yahweh?

Genesis 19:34
And Yahweh rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from Yahweh out of the heavens.

One on earth and one in heaven?

Some have said that Yahshua could not be considered the Son until after His physical birth. They will say that this verse is a prophecy - that is does not mean Yahshua was considered a son then. Notice though, that all the things He did, are listed in the past tense. There is no future tense here.

Proverbs 30:4
Who has gone up to Heaven, and come down? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in His garments? Who has made all the ends of the earth to rise? What is His name, and what is His Son's name? Surely you know.

Who did these things? And when was this written? Nearly 1000 years before Mary gave birth to Yahshua!

We see that Yahshua's name means that He is the salvation of Yahweh - or Yah's salvation. If both Yahshua and Yahweh can be considered His names, what about the Father? Could there be more to His name? To whom could these verses be referring?

Isaiah 12:2
Behold, El is my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, for my strength and song is Yah Yahweh; yes, He has become my salvation.

Isaiah 26:4
Trust in Yahweh forever, for in Yah Yahweh is everlasting strength.

Isaiah 38:11
I said, I shall not see Yah Yahweh in the land of the living; I shall not still look on man with the dwellers of the death-rest.

And what is to be our future? What will we become if we remain faithful to Him?

Psalms 17:15
As for me, I will look upon Your face in righteousness, when I awake, I shall be satisfied by Your image.

David is dead. When will He awake? In the future resurrection.

Psalms 82:6
I have said, You are elohim, and all of you sons of the Most High.

He was referring to people as elohim?

John 10:34-36
Yahshua answered them, Is it not written in your Law, "I said, you are elohim?"
If He called those elohim with whom the word of Elohim was - and the Scripture cannot be broken,
do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, You blasphemer, because I said, I am Son of Elohim?

I John 3:1-2
See what manner of love the Father has given us, that we may be called children of Elohim. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
Beloved, now we are the children of Elohim, and it was not yet revealed what we shall be. But we know that if He is revealed, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.

That is what the "absolute, one only" hides - the truth that we can become sons of Yahweh. We will become like our older brother, Yahshua.
